Luther Midelfort is a certified Primary Stroke Center. The Luther Midelfort Stroke Clinic is a vital part of this Center and provides individualized answers to patients concerns and questions. It also offers evaluations and consultations for patients who have already had a stroke or are at risk of having a stroke.

In addition to serving as an information resource, the Stroke Clinic works with patients and families to prevent stroke by identifying and controlling risk factors.

Who is it for?

Patients who may benefit from the Stroke Clinic include:

  • Those who received treatment for a stroke and have been discharged from the hospital
  • Those at risk for a stroke, such as people with asymptomatic carotid disease

What happens there?

Lack of knowledge of stroke recovery and risk factors can make it difficult for patients and those around them once they are discharged from the hospital. During a visit to the Stroke Clinic, patients are evaluated by a neurologist with specialized training in cerebrovascular diseases including stroke.

After the evaluation, our team of specialty-trained nurses and therapists will use the latest technology to diagnose and address patients concerns. Patient will then complete follow-up therapy and treatment in a clinic setting.

The stroke team will inform your primary care physician of the treatment plan and recommendations.

If you are having immediate signs or symptoms of a stroke such as:

  • Sudden weakness or numbness in your face, arm or leg
  • Sudden dimness or blurring of vision, particularly in one eye
  • Loss of speech or trouble talking or understanding speech
  • Sudden, severe headache
  • Unexplained dizziness or unsteadiness
Call 911 or go to Luther Midelfort's Emergency Department as soon as possible. Time lost is brain lost.
