What is Pulmonary Rehabilitation?
The pulmonary rehabilitation program is designed to restore people with chronic lung disease to their highest level of independent function. Pulmonary rehabilitation is a safe and effective way to help you feel better and stronger, learn more about your disease, break old habits and develop new, healthy habits.
Pulmonary rehabilitation is an outpatient program offered by Immanuel St. Joseph's. Sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from either 10 - 11 a.m. or 1 - 2 p.m. This supervised program, which is prescribed by your physician is tailored to your individual needs. Components include exercise, education on breathing techniques, medications, adequate diet, relaxation techniqes and more.
Who Can Join?
Almost everyone with lung disease can benefit from some type of pulmonary rehabilitation. No one is too old or too young.

Who is the pulmonary rehab team?
The pulmonary rehab program can involve many health care professionals. Your team may include:
- Your family doctor
- Exercise physiologist
- Respiratory therapist
- Nurse
- Dietitian
- Occupational therapist
- You! The most important member of the team is you. No one else can make you exercise, quit smoking or eat a healthier diet.
Is there a cost for the program?
Yes, there is a charge. However, medicare and personal insurance may cover all or part of the cost of your pulmonary rehabilitation. We recommend you find out what will be covered by your individual plan. The respiratory care department is also available to answer most of your questions.
