Volunteer Opportunities

At Franciscan Skemp, volunteers, 14 and older, work with paid staff to provide extra services and/or add to the quality of care. Most volunteers serve 2-4 hours a week. New volunteers complete an application, health screening, background check and orientation.

To get started, call 608-392-9766 to schedule a personal interview or send us an e-mail: Volunteer. We also invite you to complete this Application.

Openings vary throughout the year. Some of the service areas include:

Clinic Hospitality:
Volunteers meet, greet and assist patients and visitors as they enter and use clinic services in La Crosse and Onalaska. Applicants must be able to transport patients in wheelchairs; be dependable; and able to communicate well with people.

Hospice (392-9790)
Once a year, hospice volunteers are trained to provide clerical, companionship and bereavement mailing services for patients and families facing terminal illnesses.

Hospital positions: Teen, college and adult volunteers are utilized to staff the Gift Shoppe and Relative Rooms; provide clerical and delivery services; and escort and transport patients within our facility. Members of the Franciscan Skemp Auxiliary organize and carry out a number of fundraisers annually; and offer nursing scholarships to students at Viterbo University and Western Technical College.

Lifeline (392-9765)
Volunteers work as test callers, installers and provide clerical services for a telephone emergency response system that enables people to live independently in their own home.

Village Apartments (392-9578)
Volunteers are involved in providing activities for seniors living in apartments or assisted living.
