The Family Health Clinic offers the full range of services found an any modern clinic. The type of patients seen in this clinic reflect those in any busy family physician's office, and consultation is available from Franciscan Skemp Healthcare staff whenever necessary. Continuity of care for both inpatients and outpatients is enhanced by the close proximity of the clinic and hospital. Residents can care for their outpatients and inpatients without ever going outside. Residents spend one to two half-days per week in the clinic during their first year, three half-days per week during their second year, and four half-days per week during their third year. Faculty are present during all clinic hours to provide instruction, support and supervision.

Franciscan Skemp Healthcare is a community-based, fully-accredited, 250-bed, comprehensive medical center. It provides patient services in family practice, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics and high-risk maternity, gynecology, newborn nursery, neonatology, intensive and coronary care, medical rehabilitation, emergency medicine/trauma, chemical dependency and mental health. The medical center provides a full complement of diagnostic and therapeutic services. Surgical, medical and cardiac patients are cared for with the latest equipment in the ICU/CCU. More than 200 physicians, PhDs, and associate providers, representing nearly all specialty and subspecialty areas, practice at Franciscan Skemp. However, the institutional philosophy remains primary care-focused and family centered. Franciscan Skemp has been a member of the Mayo Health System since 1995 and operates hospitals and clinics in 10 communities in northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Total employment system wide is approximately 3500. |
