FAQs

Why does Franciscan Skemp need charitable support?

Since its beginning in 1883 as St. Francis Hospital, a small, 35-bed faciltiy operated by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, Franciscan Skemp has relied on generous community support to help fulfill its healing mission.

A combination of resources including patient revenue, cash reserves, and investments allow Franciscan Skemp to maintain baseline services. Charitable support enables the organization to offer advanced services and technology, while continuing its commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of poor and underserved members of our community.

What difference can my gift make?

Individually, most of us would be challenged to make a gift that significantly affects the quality of healthcare in our region.  Yet together, we can do just that.  Each gift is important, and each gift impacts the lives of our families, friends and neighbors.

What happens to my gift when it reaches the foundation?

The Foundation will acknowledge your generosity, generally within 48 hours, by mailing you a letter of thanks along with a charitable gift receipt. Your gift will be placed within the appropriate fund and used to support the healthcare programs or services you have specified (or if unspecified, the area of greatest need).

If your gift is made in honor or in memory, the Foundation will send news of your gift, without mention of amount, to the honoree(s) or to the family of the deceased.

Can I specify how my gift will be used?

Certainly. Gifts to the Foundation fall under two general headings: Greatest Need or Designated.

Greatest Need gifts are greatly appreciated because they allow Franciscan Skemp to meet current, pending needs. These important contributions provide short-term flexibility and support a wide variety of healthcare programs and services, education and training for healthcare professionals, upgrades to equipment and facilities, and much more.

You may also choose to make a designated gift in support of the program or service of your choice. When directing your gift to a specific need, you will enjoy the satisfaction of knowing your support benefits an area that has particular meaning for you. Common choices include:

  • Cancer Center
  • Oasis Fund for Cancer Patient Support (assists paitents who struggle financially while undergoing treatment)
  • Cardiac Care
  • Diabetes Care
  • Medical Research
  • Elder Services (Successful Aging, dementia support group, Lifeline assistance, etc..)
  • Family Birthplace
  • Gerard Hall (residential maternity program)
  • Hospice
  • Safe Path (domestic abuse program)
  • St. Clare Health Mission (area free clinic)

Other choices are also available. Please check with the Foundation to verify that opportunities for support exist within your particular area of interest.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes. Gifts to Franciscan Skemp Foundation are fully tax deductible as allowed by law. (You may wish to verify your eligibility for such deductions with your financial advisor.)

Can I give anonymously?

Absolutely. Simply tell us you wish to remain anonymous. We are happy to honor your request.

Will my name and address be shared with other organizations?

No. Franciscan Skemp Foundation values your support and respects your privacy.  We do not share benefactor information with outside organizations.
