Our Mission

Franciscan Skemp Foundation supports the healing mission of Franciscan Skemp Healthcare.

A member of the Mayo Health System, Franciscan Skemp provides medical care and services to people in southwestern Wisconsin, northeast Iowa and southeastern Minnesota.  In addition to the main campus in     La Crosse, WI, Franciscan Skemp Healthcare operates hospitals in Arcadia and Sparta, WI, as well as 12 regional clinics.

The Foundation was established in 1973 and serves as a link between philanthropy and opportunities to enhance local healthcare. Through a comprehensive development program, the Foundation actively raises funds within communities served by Franciscan Skemp and from other sources. In turn, these funds provide support for:

  • Programs that address unmet healthcare needs in the community
  • Advancements in patient care facilities, technology and equipment
  • Expanded access to services for disadvantaged groups
  • Medical research and education
  • Maintenance of a comprehensive spectrum of healthcare services
  • Recruitment, development and training of healthcare employees
  • Other health-related initiatives within Franciscan Skemp and the community

Each year Franciscan Skemp Foundation provides roughly

$1 million in funding for healthcare related programs and services. In 2003, with the help of thousands of generous benefactors, the Foundation saw the successful completion of the $8.3 million

Medical Excellence Campaign. This support was critical to the completion of the Franciscan Skemp Center for Advanced Medicine and Surgery which opened its doors on the

La Crosse campus in July, 2004.  The community partnered with the Foundation again in the Through These Door Campaign, providing $4.3 million in support for a new Emergency and Urgent Care Center which begain serving patients in August, 2008.
